Hermes Microvision, a Taiwan-based provider of e-beam inspection tools and solutions used in semiconductor production, generated net profits of NT$682 million (US$23.1 million) for the first half of 2012, 3.33% more than its existing paid-in capital of NT$660 million, the company said at an August 28 investors conference.
Optical inspection is the mainstream mode of inspecting wafers and the proportion using e-beams is still low, implying large market potential for e-beam inspection. Hermes said adding e-beams can inspect a smallest pitch of 3nm.
Hermes will offer e-beam inspection tools specifically for 3D ICs, the company noted.
