Chongqing and Chengdu of China, the two major cities of Sichuan province, have reportedly been competing against each other over investments from PC-related players; however, Chongqing mayor Huang Qifan has recently pointed out that the two cities are not competitors and Chengdu is the major city for production of notebooks that are supplied to China, and tablet PCs, while Chongqing is focusing on production of notebooks that are supplied worldwide.
After former CPC Chongqing Committee Secretary Bo Xilai stepped down from his position, Chengdu reportedly was aggressive trying to attract IT players that already planned to invest in Chongqing, to instead invest in Chengdu; however, as the local government of Chongqing started to settle down shortly after, there were not many IT players changed their investment plan.
As for the rumor that Chongqing is currently suffering from high debts due to its aggressiveness in establishing infrastructure, and has demanded China's central government to provide assistance, Huang has refuted the rumor and pointed out that China central government's CNY 100 billion (US$15.72 billion) budget was already planned a year ago for development of western China and not an interim subsidy to help covering its debt.
