China polysilicon firms urge government to conduct anti-dumping investigation against Europe peers

China-based polysilicon firms have reportedly filed a request with China's Ministry of Commerce hoping the government will begin an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against Europe-based polysilicon firms, according to China media reports. This is because the European Commission may begin an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against China-based solar firms.

Europe-based polysilicon firms such as Wacker from Germany and REC from Norway may be affected.

As for the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against US- and South Korea-based polysilicon firms, media reports indicate that around 10 firms have registered to comply with the investigation.

Among polysilicon imported from Europe to China, Germany takes the top place. In first-half 2012, a total of 9,100 tons of polysilicon were imported from Germany, an on-year growth of 59%. The total amount of polysilicon imported from Europe to China in first-half 2012 was 9,286 tons, up 30.8% on year, but the average price fell to US$27.53/kg, a decrease of 47.46% on year, according to reports.

Due to low demand and unstable production costs, capacity utilization of domestic polysilicon firms should be extremely low, the reports added.
