Compal Electronics has obtained orders from Dell accounting for 70% of Dell's total notebooks to be shipped in 2013, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Dell released ODM orders to Compal, Wistron and Quanta Computer in 2012, with orders accounting for 60%, 26% and 13-14% of total shipments, respectively, the sources said. For shipments scheduled for 2013, Dell has released the remaining orders accounting for 30% of total shipments to Wistron, the sources indicated.
As Dell is expected to ship 27 million notebooks in 2013, Compal will produce 18.9 million units, increasing 26% from Compal's shipments to Dell in 2012, the sources said.
2013 orders received by Compal cover almost of all Dell enterprise models, while those received by Wistron focus on consumer models, the sources indicated. Since ODM prices and gross margins for enterprise notebooks are generally higher, Compal's business in 2013 is expected to benefit from the orders, the sources analyzed.
