Canon Taiwan inaugurates new factory

Canon Taiwan, on June 28, inaugurated its factory in Chiayi, central Taiwan, which will mainly produce entry- to mid-range DSLR cameras, according to the company.

Canon Taiwan started construction of the factory with an investment of NT$4 billion (US$131 million) in September 2011. The factory has 900-1,000 employees currently and the workforce will be expanded to 2,000 at the end of 2012, and further to 4,000 in 2-3 years.

The new factory is Canon Taiwan's second in Taiwan, the first is located in Taichung. Canon Taiwan is expanding the Taichung factory by constructing additional buildings with an investment of NT$11 billion. The new buildings to be inaugurated on August 11, 2012. Canon Taiwan will increase staff at the Taichung factory from about 5,000 currently to 7,000-8,000.

With the expansion of production capacity, Canon Taiwan expects its revenues to increase to NT$45 billion in 2012, rising 32.74% from 2011, and further to NT$70 billion eventually.
