About 500,000 tablet PCs will be sold in the Taiwan market in 2012, according to executive vice president for marketing Benjamin Ho for Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET).
In 2011, 470,000 tablet PCs were sold in Taiwan, 44.7% of them through mobile telecom carriers and 55.3% through general retail outlets, Ho indicated.
FET sold about 80,000 tablet PCs in 2011, beating its target of 70,000 units, Ho said, adding the carrier aims to sell 80,000-90,000 units in 2012.
Of smartphones sold in Taiwan in 2011, 51.2% were high-end models and the proportion in 2012 is forecast to be 50%, Ho indicated.
Of FET's revenues for mobile communication services, 27% came from non-voice services in 2011 and it expects the proportion to increase to 35% in 2012, Ho said.
