China-based vendor Skyworth sold 1.1072 million LCD TVs, of which 772,100 were LED-backlit models, in the China market in December 2011, increasing on year by 18% and 165% respectively, according to industry sources.

According to studies, demand in China's LCD market in 2012 should be around 46 million units, the largest in the world. However, economic uncertainties such as falling housing prices and inflation have been casting a cloud over the market. Industry sources believe the market will demonstrate slight growth in 2012.

China's panel market is likely to grow in 2012 as well, as the 8.5G production lines of BOE and TCL began operations in the second half of 2011, China-based research institutes predict total panel production will reach 18 million units.

The penetration rate of smart TVs is forecast to grow to 30% in 2012, according to research institutes. China-based firms such as TCL and Lenovo have been introducing smart TV products.
