HTC has unveiled its new Android-based smartphone, the HTC Rhyme, in New York. The new model will be available soon in the US exclusively from Verizon Wireless and across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific in October.

The Rhyme features a 3.7-inch WVGA panel and 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, power LED flash and instant shutter. In addition, the camera features a number of photo-taking and sharing elements, including face detection, action burst scene, and can operate in panoramic mode.

The Rhyme offers entertainment through HTC Watch, which features a selection of movies and TV shows that can be downloaded for instant viewing.

The Rhyme also comes with a number of accessories including a docking station, sports armband, headphone, Bluetooth headset and car speaker as well as a discrete device called the Charm, which alerts users for incoming calls or messages.

Including the HTC Rhyme, HTC is expected to launch a total of 6-8 new models in the fourth quarter of 2011, in order to fend off competition from Apple's new iPhones and safeguard its ranking in the global smartphone segment, according to industry sources.
