Cando will continue to ramp up the production of touch modules in the second half of 2011 while reducing the proportion of touch sensors to its overall production, according to CY Lin, chairman of the touch panel maker.
Sales of touch sensors currently account for less than 40% of Cando's total sales, and the ratio is likely to drop further as shipments of touch modules are being propped up, Lin stated.
Cando managed to swing into profitability in the first quarter and has also seen its gross margin grow quarter on quarter, said Lin. For the first five months of 2011, Cando posted revenues of NT$4.1 billion (US$142.23 million), an increase of 130% from a year earlier.
For touch module production, the company is currently utilizing its two 3.5G production lines in Huko, northern Taiwan to produce touch sensors, which will then be shipped to its plant in Suzhou, China for assembly into touch modules. In addition, the company is producing touch sensors for iPad 2 tablet PCs at its existing 4.5G production line.
However, the company will begin producing touch sensors at its new 4.5G line at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) in the fourth quarter of 2011 and convert the old 4.5G line into a touch module production line.
