CMC, Ritek may hike optical disc quotes to reflect hiked cost

In response to continual hikes in the cost of optical-grade polycarbonate (PC), which now stands at US$3/kg, Taiwan-based blank optical disc makers CMC Magnetics and Ritek are likely to raise their quotes in the second and third quarters of 2011, according to industry sources.

Optical-grade PC price has been rising because main international producers have devoted more of their capacities to making general-grade PCs to meet growing global demand, the sources noted.

CMC and Ritek raised quotes by 10-20% in first-quarter 2011, but this is not enough to reflect the increased optical-grade PC cost, the sources indicated.
