Taiwan-based CMC Magnetics and Gigastorage have reduced production of CD-R and DVD-R/+R blank discs by as much as one-third from 2009 to cope with shrinking global demand, according to industry sources.
Some second-tier Taiwan-based fellow makers have even stopped production due to operating losses. Consequently, Taiwan-based makers' total output has decreased and this may allow leading makers to raise quotes later in first-quarter 2011, the sources said.
