WLAN chipmaker Ralink Technology expects its shipments to grow by a single-digit rate sequentially in the first quarter of 2011 with gross margin hovering at the same level recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted the company as saying.

Ralink's shipments of wireless chips totaled 25.8 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010, up 15.2% sequentially and 49.3% on year. However, gross margin dropped to 37.1% in the fourth quarter from the third quarter's 44.3%. For all of 2010, shipments of all chips reached 88.4 million units, increasing 67.7% from a year earlier, the paper said.

Net profits topped NT$911 million (US$31 million) in 2010, translating into an EPS of NT$6.50, the paper noted.
