Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will likely hire more than 6,500 new employees in 2011, for new manufacturing operations in Taiwan, the Chinese-language Commercial Times has reported in an unsourced story.
TSMC's new 12-inch fabrication facilities at the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) and the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) are about to commence volume production in 2011, the paper pointed out. Meanwhile, the foundry is scheduled to complete first-phase construction at a new 12-inch plant at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) with equipment move-in around mid-2011.
TSMC is also expected to finalize plans to add sixth, seventh and eighth stages of expansion to its 12-inch Fab 12 at HSP, the paper said. The foundry may conduct another round of hiring around the end of 2011, the paper added.
In addition, the workforce for TSMC's non-foundry business is estimated at 2,300-2,500 in 2011, according to the paper. Volume production at the phase-1 facility of its LED fab at HSP will kick off in the first quarter of 2011, while construction of its thin-film solar R&D center and fab at CTSP is set to be completed with equipment move-in in the second quarter.
