GT Solar International has received more than US$84 million worth of orders for sapphire crystallization systems, according to the solar-manufacturing equipment specialist. The announcement follows its acquisition of sapphire substrate maker Crystal Systems in July 2010.
GT Solar said its first orders for LED equipment were placed by Jiangsu Jixing New Material and Jiujiang Sapphire Tech. The two orders bring the company's bookings so far in its fiscal third quarter to more than US$245 million.
"The response to our sapphire equipment strategy from customers has been very positive and we are pleased to be able to announce our first orders," said Tom Gutierrez, president and CEO of GT Solar. "We continue to talk with other potential customers in the Asia region for our sapphire crystallization systems and believe we are on track to meet our projected US$100 million in revenue in our fiscal year 2012 from sapphire crystallization equipment sales."
