Taiwan's Executive Yuan has approved a plan proposed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) calling for the establishment of eight Chinese-language electronics commercial platforms with each generating revenues of over NT$10 billion (US$323.9 million) a year by 2015.

Currently, business transactions concluded through B2C platforms in Taiwan total about NT$207.6 billion (US$6.72 billion) a year, while those through C2C platforms reach NT$150 billion, according to data provided by the government agencies.

Under the MOEA's plans, the Taiwan government will invest NT$450 million in the next six years to consign the Institute for Information Industry (III) to map and carry out e-commerce platform development projects.

The MOEA targets revenues generated by Taiwan-based companies through e-commerce platforms (B2B+B2C) to top NT$1 trillion a year in the global Chinese society by 2015, while soliciting total investments of over NT$1.2 billion from industries and venture capital firms and creating job opportunities for over 82,000 workers.
