China market: Suning reportedly strikes LCD TV brand deal with Japan vendor

Suning Appliance, the largest IT and consumer electronics retail chain in China, plans to strengthen its penetration in China's LCD TV market by offering a series of models authorized to carry the brand of a Japan vendor from the third quarter of 2010, according to industry sources.

For the authorization deal, Suning has reportedly placed orders for 32-, 42- and 47-inch LCD TVs with Taiwan-based Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Amtran Technology with plans to also cover other sizes up to 55-inch, the sources added.

Amtran and Foxconn both declined to comment on the reports.

Amtran has been producing LCD TVs for China-based Skyworth Digital Holding since 2009, and will begin to ship high-end LED TVs to the vendor in the third quarter this year, noted the sources.

Foxconn is expected to ship 8.5-12 million LCD TVs in 2010, with orders coming mostly from Sony, Vizio, Philips, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics (LGE), estimated the sources.
