Acer expects its notebook shipments will see significant growth in the second half of 2010 due to recovery in the enterprise PC market, while the company's shipments in the second quarter of 2010 will stay flat sequentially, according to company chairman JT Wang at a cross-strait technical forum in Taipei.
Wang pointed out that the notebook industry will continue to see growth for the next five years and Acer is working aggressively trying to become the world's largest notebook vendor.
As for China, Wang noted that its market ecosystem is very complicated since different city tiers need different types of sales strategies. But Acer will continue working in the market, aiming to boost its market share from 7% to over 10%, he said.
Wang pointed out that Acer is also gearing up for the smartphone market. Smartphones' gross margin can reach 15-20%, higher than the company's overall gross margin of 10%, he noted.
