Several provincial governments in China, in an attempt to capitalize on the country's Golden Sun PV subsidization program, have offered incentives to tout investment from Taiwan-based makers through setting up joint ventures or wholly owned subsidiaries and R&D centers, according to industry sources.
Golden Sun is a 2009-2011 program subsidizing 294 demonstration PV system projects around China.
The incentives and huge market potential in China may be attractive, but Taiwan-based makers will have to evaluate their competitiveness and other factors, and are unlikely to make decisions for the time being, the sources said.
