IC design house Sonix Technology will sample optical-touch solutions for Windows 7 certification by the end of 2009, with volume production slated for the second quarter of 2010, targeting the all-in-one PC market. The company's legal unit has been working on patent related researches to avoid infringing upon Pixart Imaging's Smart Tech patent.

Pixart Imaging and Quanta Computer have partnered on the development of optical-touch solutions and licensed the Smart Tech patent.

Sonix has estimated its fourth-quarter 2009 revenues to drop within 20% and gross margin to stay flat. It is optimistic about shipment growth of notebook webcam products in 2010, and plans to expand optical identification (OID) product lines to IPTV and online gaming applications next year. The company has also introduced 2.4G RF wireless audio/video solutions used in baby monitors.
