Acer is optimistic about its operating performance in the second half of 2009 and has estimated a 35% sequential growth in consolidated revenues for the third quarter and 10% for the fourth, according to company CEO Gianfranco Lanci.
Lanci pointed out that the company's operating profit ratio reached 2.56% in the second quarter due to its careful management over operating costs, and said he expects the percentage to go even higher in the second half.
Lanci estimated Acer's notebook shipments in the third quarter are to climb 35-40% on quarter, and pointed out that if consumer reaction toward Windows 7 is positive, the company will see even higher sales performance in the fourth quarter.
Acer has already increased its inventory of notebook components including DRAM, to fulfill upcoming demand, while price fluctuations caused by shortages have not impacted Acer much, Lanci said.
Lanci expects Acer's operating profit ratio will be close to 3% in the second half of 2009, and will have a chance to hit 4% in 2010-2011.
Ultra-thin models currently only account for around 20% of Acer's total notebook shipments, however the company estimated that the proportion will reach 30% by the end of the year, while netbooks will remain flat at 30-35%.
