Executives of Philips Lumileds including George Craford, solid state lighting fellow, and Steve Barlow, executive VP of sales and marketing, recently visited Taiwan seeking cooperation with LED lighting players.

Barlow indicated that Philips will spend significant time and efforts to operate the Greater China market, which is estimated to account for over 50% of the global LED streetlamp and tunnel light market in 2009.

In terms of LED general lighting, Philips is activity helping clients in product design to further lower production cost, Barlow said, adding that with consumers still being uncertain about the benefits of LED lighting, the prices of LED lighting products have become the key for market growth.

Barlow said that Philips has introduced a new series of LED products that meet the Energy Star requirements set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
