With the China government's program for promoting consumer electronics in rural areas, local China LCD TV brands' market share has increased to 70-80% from 40% in the past, according to market sources.

Local vendors' price reductions have also helped boost their market share, the sources noted, adding some local brand vendors are selling 26-inch LCD TVs for less than 2,000 yuan (US$292), and white-box vendors are offering 32-inch LCD TVs at prices udner 1,900 yuan.

The sources indicated that the overall China TV market size was about 36 million units in 2008, 22 million units of which were CRT TVs. The sources estimate that China's LCD TV market will increase to 20 million units this year from 14 million in 2008.
