Due to weak orders and falling prices, second-tier TFT-LCD panel makers Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), HannStar Display, and Innolux Display saw December 2008 revenues decline sharply compared to the same month of 2007.
CPT announced unconsolidated revenues for December 2008 were NT$2.8 billion (US$84.2 million), a sequential decrease of 28.1% and an on-year decline of 77.6%. The company's consolidated revenues for December 2008 approximated NT$3.59 billion, down 32.7% sequentially and down 74.4% on year.
The company's consolidated revenues of TFT business for December decreased 29% sequentially to NT$3.05 billion, which represents a 75.4% decline on year. December shipments of large-size panels for applications such as monitors, notebooks, and TVs, totaled 853,000 units, down 17.3% sequentially and 62% on year. Shipments of small- to medium-size panels decreased 26.6% sequentially to 2.57 million units.
For CRT business, CPT's revenues for December totaled NT$532 million, down 48.3% sequentially. CRT shipments for December were 511,000 units, down 50.2% sequentially.
HannStar reported December revenues of NT$510.58 million, down 74.1% sequentially and down 91.94% on year. December shipments of large-size monitor panels and HannsG-branded monitors reached 539,000 units, down 7.1% sequentially. Medium-size panel shipments reached 697,000 units, down 51.1% sequentially.
Innolux saw its monthly revenues drop under NT$10 billion for the first time in two years in December revenues. The company had December revenues of NT$9.01 billion, down 11.2% sequentially, and down 37.83% on year, according to data from the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).
