Handset PCB marker Plotech expects September consolidated sales of NT$360-370 million (US$11.2-11.5 million) with third-quarter performance better than in the second quarter. However, sales in October will only see slight growth since customers hold a conservative view about the holiday season.
Plotech indicated that any holiday season effects on the China and Taiwan markets are unclear. With orders worth only NT$90-100 million from Taiwan, the company estimated consolidated sales in October at NT$380-390 million, up only NT$20-30 million from September. Investors expect Plotech's consolidated sales in the fourth quarter to see 5-10% sequential sales growth, not as good as in previous years.
Plotech used to focus on orders from China white-box handset makers, which offered lower order volumes but higher unit prices. Concerned about company sales growth and margins, Plotech has, in the past two years, switched focus to international handset makers and reduced the proportion of its China handset business to 40%, market sources noted.
