MediaTek has reported a 21.53% sequential decline in December consolidated sales to NT$5.26 billion (US$162.1 million), bringing its fourth-quarter consolidated sales to a total of NT$20.13 billion, which meets the last downward adjustment the IC design house made to its guidance.
At the end of October, MediaTek forecasted its fourth-quarter sales would drop 10-12%, but in late November the handset chip designer estimated a worse decline of 15-20%. In late December, it further lowered the guidance to NT$20 billion, a sequential decline of 25% due to weaker-than-expected demand in China.
The design house has blamed the lowered guidance to a series of macroeconomic control measures by the Chinese government and the tightened credit lines hitting the consumer market.
