Quanta's monthly revenues in October rose on year due to strong shipments while Wistron saw revenues hit a new record during the period, according to the companies.
Quanta had revenues of NT$74.39 billion (US$2.4 billion) from its operations in Taiwan and China, up 40.4% on year but down 6.4% on month, said the company.The company shipped three million notebooks last month with accumulated shipments for the first ten months of this year totaling 25.42 million units.
Earlier this year, Quanta reportedly lost orders from Dell and this was expected to affect annual notebook shipments. However, with Dell deciding to give up its direct sales strategy and developing new products, the PC vendor has placed additional orders with Quanta for the fourth quarter, according to sources. With the new orders from Dell, shipments and revenues for Quanta are likely to peak this quarter, added the sources.
Meanwhile, Quanta is also developing its non-notebook business. The company expects revenues for its non-notebook business to reach 25% in 2008, compared to 22% in the third quarter of 2007, noted sources.
Wistron's revenues in October totaled NT$29.84 billion, up 0.23% on month and 55.61% on year. Revenues of Wistron's notebook sector generated NT$22.85 billion last month, up 61.13$ on year, and accounting for 76.56% of the company's overall sales.
Market sources estimate that notebook shipments from Wistron are likely to reach nine million units and 18 million units in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
