Canon on October 3 unveiled in Taiwan the EOS 1Ds Mark III, its deluxe DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera with a resolution of 21 megapixels, and another new DSLR model, the EOS 40D, as well as six new consumer digital cameras. The company aims to gain the largest market share in Taiwan for DSLR cameras and to increase its market share for consumer digital cameras from 15% in the first half of 2007 to 20% in the second half, according to Canon Marketing (Taiwan).

Canon has set aside a marketing budget of at least US$2 million (US$61,000) for the second half of 2007, Canon Taiwan vice president and spokesman Jesse Su pointed out.

While the EOS 40D and IXUS 860IS will be launched immediately, the other six models will be launched later in October or in early November, Canon Taiwan indicated. The recommended retail price for EOS 1Ds Mark III has not been determined yet, but will exceed NT$200,000 for the camera body alone, Canon Taiwan noted.
