Packaging and testing house Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) has reported that its revenues for the second quarter grew 10.78%, with June sales hitting a record at NT$5.24 billion (US$159.7 million) due to increased demand from the PC, handset and consumer electronics segments.

The growth in second-quarter sales beat previous guidance provided by SPIL chairman Bough Lin, who had remarked that the increase would not exceed 10% for the quarter.

SPIL remains optimistic about the third quarter, saying sales will continue to be driven by the PC, handset and consumer electronics segments.

SPIL's major domestic rival Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) also predicts strong demand from the three segments in the third quarter, and the company is likely to see a double-digit sequential growth for the third quarter, according to ASE COO Tien Wu. Market observers expect ASE to report NT$8.5 billion in revenues for June, up 7.5% from May.
