Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar has received orders from a China client for one million units of street-lamp-use LED chips, with more orders coming in the second quarter, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times.
Epistar spokesman Shie-Shien Chang was cited as saying that although the volume may not be big, but it marks a good start. Chang pointed out that so far Shanghai has more than 30,000 street lamps that use LED chips, and other Chinese cities will also adopt LED chips for their street lamps, according to the paper.
