Innolux Display plans to focus on the handset LCD panel business in 2007, according to Hsing C Tuan, president of Innolux.

The small- to medium-size LCD panel business accounts for 13-15% of Innolux's current revenues, Tuan said, adding that the company aims for sales from the segment to grow 50% sequentially in 2007 with gross margins also enjoy more than 50% on-year growth.

Innolux has been involved in the handset panel market for more than two years. The company is now eying orders from first-tier makers and expects to expand its partnership with Nokia and Motorola, Tuan indicated.

Innolux has one 4.5 generation (4.5G) and one 5G plant. The monthly production at the two plants is 44,000-45,000 substrates and more than 80,000 substrates, respectively, according to the company. Tuan pointed out that the 4.5G plant is very suitable for handset panel production. A 4.5G substrate can be cut into 250 2.5-inch panels, he noted.

Innolux will continue outsourcing LCD panels, the company stated. Currently, 60% of Innolux's panels are sourced from other makers, up from 50% in 2006, said Tuan.

Meanwhile, Innolux will also increase its 8-inch LCD panel shipments in 2007, Tuan projected. Innolux is the largest supplier for 7-inch LCD panel with monthly shipments exceeding one million panels at present, according to sources.
