Asustek Computer announced via a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on November 14 that the company will invest US$1.2 million in Jiangsu Dongbu High Technology Metal Products, a China-based iron and steel company.
Today's Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) indicated that through the investment, Asustek will have a 20% stake in the company. Currently, 50% of Jiangsu Dongbu is owned by Korea-based companies while China makers account for 30%, the paper noted.
The paper quoted Asustek as saying that the investment will allow the company to secure material for its metal casing business.
