Asustek Computer has teamed up with four channel distributors in Japan, allowing the company to start marketing its own-brand notebooks in the Japanese market in the fourth quarter, according to Benson Lin, president of Asustek's Asia-Pacific and Taiwan unit.

The four Japanese channel distributors are Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, Sofmap and Tsukumo, Lin stated.

Notebook models available in the Japan market will include Asustek's S6-series leather notebooks and the Lamborghini-series notebooks, said Lin, who asserted that these two series are likely to enjoy brisk sales in the Japan due to their quality and product design.

The leather-bound S6 models are priced at about 279,800 yen (US$2,378), while the Lamborghini notebooks are available at 399,800 (US$3,398), or at the same level as Sony's VAIO AR-series, Fujitsu's Biblio NX-series and Toshiba's Qosmio G30-series notebooks, according to sources at Asustek.

In the Taiwan market, Asustek is selling the S6- and Lamborghini-series notebooks at a number of specially designated stores, and expects sales of the models will help boost ASPs (average selling prices), said the sources.
