Taiwan-based Pou Chen Group on October 24 held the opening ceremony for its first LCD TV line located in the US, where the company will process LCD TV orders received from US-based Syntax-Brillian. Pou Chen may also seek OEM/ODM orders from other vendors in the future, market sources indicated.
The sources indicated that the plant initially will have only one production line with a monthly capacity of 30,000 units. The new production line will produce 37-, 42- and 47-inch LCD TV model and 65-inch liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) rear-projection TVs (RPTVs), according to a August report from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN).
Although Pou Chen's main business is the manufacturing of sports shoes, the company has expanded into the production of optoelectronics products in recent years.
On June 22, Pou Chen Group announced that its 100% owned subsidiary Mindtech Investments has signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with SVA Optronics, a member of the China-based SVA Group, for cooperation in TFT LCD module (LCM) production.
The group also holds a 5% stake in Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) and a majority stake in monitor manufacturer ProArch Technology, according to information released earlier this year.
For 2006, Pou Chen Group aims to ship 4.5 million LCMs and LCD monitors combined, the sources noted.
