There were 18,497 x86 servers shipped to the Taiwan market during the second quarter of this year, slipping by 17.3% on quarter but rising by 1.6% on year, according to International Data Corporation (IDC) Taiwan.
Manufacturers were the largest buyer group, accounting for 29% of last quarter's total shipment volume of x86 servers, followed by financial businesses with 17% and the government sector with 11%, IDC Taiwan indicated.
Opteron-based servers recorded the highest quarter-on-quarter shipment volume growth of 25%, said IDC Taiwan. Dell, IBM and Sun Microsystems have offered or plan to offer new Opteron-based x86 servers in the second half of this year, IDC Taiwan indicated.
