Lite-On Technology, a leading EMS (electronics manufacturing services) provider in Taiwan, has set itself a challenging goal of shipping 30 million compact camera modules (CCMs), for use in handsets, this year, according to company CFO Andrew Lin at the company's 2006 shareholder meeting on June 21.

Lite-On Technology extended its production to CCMs in June 2003 and quickly reached break-even production at the end of that year, Lin pointed out. The company delivered 14 million CCMs in 2004 and 22 million units in 2005, Lin indicated. Of the target shipment volume for this year, 70% will be 1.3-megapixel units, 10-15% 2.0-megapixel units and 15-20% VGA (about 310,000 pixels) and above-2.0 megapixels, Lin noted.

Lite-On Technology is a leading maker of CCMs and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in Taiwan and has invested in local makers of handset enclosures, handset keypads and lens kits for CCMs, according to Lin. With these advantages, Lite-On Technology has an operational strategy of becoming an integrated supplier of key components for handsets, Lin noted.

Lite-On Technology's planned distribution of a 2005 dividend per share of NT$2.4 in cash and NT$0.05 in stock was approved at the shareholder meeting.
