Ritek, the second largest maker of optical discs in Taiwan, recently partnered with Samsung Electronics for a steady supply of flash ICs to produce small memory cards under its own Ridata brand according to the company.
Ritek extended its production to small memory cards three years ago, with Samsung being its major supplier of flash ICs. The partnership reinforces the cooperation with Samsung, Ritek pointed out.
The revenue from sales of small memory cards as a proportion of total revenue will increase from 10% currently to 20% for the whole of this year, Ritek noted. In addition to receiving a Most Valued Partner award from Samsung this year, the South Korean enterprise's Semiconductor Business president & CEO Chang-gyu Hwang visited Ritek on May 29.
Global demand for small memory cards will grow from 283 million units in 2005 to 342 million this year and further to 400 million in 2007, Ritek said. The company will showcase a series of its small memory cards at the Computex 2006 IT trade show, which will take place in Taipei from June 6-10.
