Lite-On IT, the largest maker of optical disc drives (ODDs) in Taiwan, and Quanta Storage, Taiwan’s largest maker of slim-type ODDs, on April 24 reported their estimated financial results for the first quarter of this year with a net earnings per share (EPS) of NT$0.73 and NT$1.34, respectively.
The higher first-quarter net EPS for Quanta Storage was due to the company’s increasing shipments of more profitable slim-type DVD burners while the profitability for half-height (H/H) ODDs, Lite-On’s mainstay product, was thinning due to intensive competition, institutional investors pointed out.
