Nokia yesterday launched a 3G handset, the 6280, which targets the mid-range segment, aiming to grab 3G market share from Sony Ericsson in the Taiwan market, according to market sources.

The standalone price of the slide form factor 6280, which offers a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, MiniSD memory card and flash light, will be NT$16,800 (US$519). The price will go down to NT$6,180 in packaged sales offered by telecom provider Taiwan Mobile.

In addition, Nokia will soon launch another mid-range 3G handset, the 6233, in the local market at a more competitive price than the 6280, according to Loren Shuster, general manager for customers, marketing and operation of Nokia Taiwan.

In the second quarter of this year, Nokia plans to launch a total of five 3G handsets in the Taiwan market, including the N91, N80 and N71, Shuster said.
