Inventec Appliances aims to ship three million own OKWAP-branded GSM handsets in Taiwan and China in 2006, with the domestic market accounting for one third of the projected volume and China taking up the rest, said George Chiu, director for marketing of the Taiwan-based handset vendor.
Inventec, the fifth largest vendor in Taiwan’s handset market, plans to launch 10-12 new handsets in 2006, including two 3G handsets and two smartphones that will hopefully expand the company’s share in the high-end segment, Chiu said.
For handsets available in the first quarter of next year, there will be a 3G handset, a smartphone, as well as the MP3-enabled H133, and the A323, which features a friendly interface for mobile blog setup, Chiu stated.
The H133 will be available in January at NT$6,000 (US$181) and the A323 at NT$9,000 (US$271), according to company sources.
