Global demand for DVD+R/-R discs is estimated to jump to 6.0 billion discs in 2006 and the supply may not be enough because Taiwanese makers generally do not plan to expand their production capacities, according to industry sources.
CMC Magnetics, Ritek, Prodisc Technology and many second-tier makers currently have their production capacities for DVD+R/-R discs fully utilized and booked up for the first quarter of 2006, the sources indicated. Conservative outlooks about expanding production capacities is likely to result in an shortage in the global supply of DVD+R/-R discs in the second half of 2006, the sources pointed out.
The OEM prices of DVD+R/-R discs currently stand at US$0.22-0.25 for 16x and US$0.20 for 8x, the sources noted.
