Total shipments of CRT and LCD monitors (branded PC monitors) rose 27.2% on quarter and 4.6% on year to 514,540 units in the third quarter of this year in the Taiwan market, due to back to school demand and growing orders from the government, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).
LCD monitors accounted for 95.14% of all PC monitors shipped last quarter and the segment totaled 489,539 units. With the price gap between CRT and LCD monitors narrowing, CRT shipments decreased to 25, 001 units, IDC indicated.
The 17-inch LCD monitor segment remained the mainstream, although the 19-inch segment increased its market share to 33.2%, up from 29.1% in the second quarter of this year, due to falling prices, the research firm said.
The top four LCD monitor brands in Taiwan market last quarter included CMV (combined with PolyView), ViewSonic, Acer and BenQ.
