DVD burners will account for more than 50% of optical disc drives (ODDs) sold in the Taiwan market next year, BenQ predicts. This year, there will be 2 million ODDs of all types sold in Taiwan and about 40% of them will be DVD burners, according to local retail channels.

BenQ’s Super Multi DVD burners have been sold abroad but not yet in the domestic market, the company indicated. BenQ is observing sales performance for Super Multi DVD burners of other brands to determine when best to launch its own models in the Taiwan market, the company added.

To reduce inventory levels, local retail channels have lowered or plan to lower prices of 16x DVD Dual with 8x DL (single-sided double-layer) burners and 16x DVD Dual with 4x DL burners by 7-10% to NT$1,600-1,800 (US$48-54) and below NT$1,500 (US$45), respectively.
