There were 7.33 million Internet hosts in Taiwan in January this year, including 3.81 million hosts with the second-level domain “.hinet.net” and 3.52 million with the top-level domain “.tw” (Taiwan’s country code), according to the Focus on Internet News & Data report prepared by the Advanced e-Commerce Institute (ACI-FIND) under the government-sponsored Institute for Information Industry (III).
The ACI-FIND includes data from the Internet Domain Survey conducted by the Internet Systems Consortium (originally named the Internet Software Consortium).
Taiwan’s Internet hosts accounted for 2.3% of the world’s total of 317.64 million Internet hosts, the ACI-FIND indicated. By country code, the number of “.tw” hosts ranked 11th globally. Japan was first and the US – with the .us, .edu, .gov, .mil domains combined – was second. In the Asia Pacific region, Taiwan was third following Japan and Australia, the ACI-FIND said. The “.hinet.net” domain is operated by Taiwan’s largest ISP (Internet service provider) Chunghwa Telecom.
