VIA, SiS expect core-logic chipset shipments to grow 10-15% in 2005

Two Taiwan-based chipset makers – VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) – expect their shipments of core-logic chipsets to grow 10-15% in 2005, despite business remaining flat in January, according to sources at the makers.

VIA announced Tuesday that its January revenues of NT$1.55 billion were down 1.3% from the NT$1.57 billion it recorded in December.

However, shipments of VIA’s core-logic chipsets are expected to reach 44 million sets this year, up 12.8-15.8% from about 38-39 million units shipped in 2004, company sources estimated.

SiS has not yet disclosed its January revenues, but company sources estimate the amount remains flat at December’s total of NT$877.51 million.

Shipments of’ core-logic chipsets from SiS dropped 27.5% on-year to 21 million units in 2004, but they are expected to rebound to 23.1-24.2 million this year, according to a preliminary estimate by company sources.
