Pantech launched its first mobile phone model with built-in fingerprint sensor, the GI100 (branded ‘Z1’ in Taiwan), in Hong Kong and Taiwan, through Hong Kong-based First Mobile, the company’s major Asia-Pacific channel distributor.
The model will be marketed in Malaysia and the Philippines soon, according to First Mobile.
With fingerprint recognition, the phone enables users to operate lock-in keys for access to the address book, games and authoring and sending SMS (short messaging service) text messages. The GI100 has a built-in 1.3-megapixel digital camera, a 262,144-color main display, as well as a sub-display, and it supports 30 minutes of video recording.
In addition to Pantech, First Mobile also distributes mobile phones for BenQ in India and Motorola in Malaysia, according to the company. The company has 16 handset brands currently on the market, distributed mainly in China, Malaysia, Singapore, India and the Philippines, said the company.
