Sun Microsystems will likely establish an RFID research and development center in Taiwan, indicated the paper. In addition, Microsoft currently undertakes development of RFID applications in its Asia-Pacific .NET center in Taiwan, the paper added.

Global demand for RFID hardware, software and services will grow at a 23% compound average growth rate (CAGR), from more than US$1 billion in 2003 to US$3 billion in 2007, according to the Wireless Data Research Group (WDRG).
