BenQ is anticipating shipping 4.5 million units this quarter, down from 5.3 million units in the second quarter, according to sources in the Taiwan handset industry. The company declined to comment on the estimate.
If BenQ reaches the level, its earlier 2004 shipment forecast however implies lower shipments in the fourth quarter.
Due in large part to the demand for Motorola’s C200, V290 and V291, the sources said the company should reach ODM shipment levels of 3.5-4 million units. In addition, its own-brand models and private-label phones for China are expected to exceed 200,000 units.
