Sintek Photronic and Cando both plan to build 4.5-generation (4.5G) color filter (CF) plants this year and expect the plants to enter volume production in 2005, according to the companies.
Sintek’s 4.5G plant will have a monthly processing capacity of 80,000 substrates and will support CFs needed by Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Innolux Display.
Cando will ship more than 80% of its 4.5G CFs to AU Optronics (AUO).
In related news, Sintek will work with US-based Iridigm Display, a FPD (flat-panel display) component company, and invest NT$1.2 billion to NT$1.3 billion to produce reflective LCDs for PDAs, electronic boards and electronic book readers (e-books).
