The global front-projector market will grow by 40% to 2.46 million units in 2004, pushed mainly by 89.5% growth in the home projector segment, according to US-based market research firm Pacific Media Associates (PMA).

PMA expects prices for DLP (digital light processing) projectors to fall, as Texas Instruments (TI) lowers its DLP technology patent licensing fees and introduces new multi-functional chips. In addition, the increase in home projector demand leads PMA to project that global projector unit sales will reach 5.08 million units in 2005.

The global projector market will grow sharply through 2005, with the home and office projector segments increasing by a respective 64% and 36% CAGR (compounded annual growth rate), PMA said.
