The board of directors of Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) on December 18 decided to inject an additional US$33 million to ramp up the monthly assembly capacity of its TFT LCD module (LCM) factory in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province (China) from 200,000 modules currently to 500,000 modules by the first quarter of next year.

Attracted by Taiwanese downstream system producers moving production to China, Taiwanese panel producers have been moving their labor-intensive back-end module assembly lines to China. The Taiwan-based Market Intelligence Center (MIC) recently predicted that 60% of notebook production and 88% of LCD monitor production by Taiwanese companies will be carried out in China next year, up from a respective 50.3% and 79.2% currently.
